In the early 1970's, part of the land on which the course now stands was donated to the Council for the purpose of constructing a Public Golf Course for the benefit of the residents of the Mornington Peninsula Shire.

In 1977, the then Shire President Cr. Marcia Sly, and deputy President Cr. D Gordon, officially opened the Golf Course. In 1980, the then Shire President, Cr. R. On 25th August 1980, a Ladies Committee was formed and became affiliated with the V.L.G.U., (subsequently known as W.G.V., then Golf Victoria and now part of Golf Australia). Our first Lady President was Dot Fletcher, and Lady Captain was Sheila Hawkins. The men commenced correspondence with the V.G.L. and the V.G.U, (subsequently known as V.G.A., then Golf Victoria and now part of Golf Australia) re affiliation at about the same time.

On 9th September 1980, a Social Club was formed, which was the forerunner to many happy times at dances and parties, bus trips, and other activities organized by the Social Committee. During September, Mr John Cizzio was appointed acting Captain and put in charge of Competitions until a match Committee could be formed.

On 1st November 1980, official competitions began, and membership at that time totalled 190.

On 6th March 1981, the first AGM was held, and Mr Cecil Siddons was elected President, Mr John Cizzio was elected Captain. The Lady President was Dot Fletcher, and the Lady's Captain was Mrs Sheila Hawkins. Membership stood at 226.

In 1987, the course nines were reversed. Changing the front nine to the back, and vice versa; this playing order remains the same today.

The Council allowed the Club to share an area in the Pro-shop as its Clubrooms. In 1991, the new Clubrooms (funded by the Club) were officially opened, with the V.G.L. and the V.L.G.U. representatives in attendance for the opening ceremony. The Clubrooms were added to the Council's assets and the Club then entered into a lease arrangement with the Council.

Clubroom improvements (Club Funded) were carried out in 2008, with the Clubroom Upgrade Project extending the outside deck area from the Pro-shop area, moving the Club's front door and front wall to new locations to increase the internal Clubroom floor area and also, adding an office. In 2015, the Clubhouse's west wall required replacing, the Council agreed that an upgrade was a better option (Club funded the difference) and subsequently the West Wall Access was officially opened by the then Mayor, Cr Bev Colomb, at the Club's 35th Year Anniversary celebrations on 25th September 2015.

The Ladies have remained affiliated with G.P.V. (previously the M.P.D.W.G before its merge with the P.D.G.A.) and the Men with the V.G.L.
